Opera written four hands in the first seventeenth century, the inconstant (better known to the public under the title The Italian lunatic) tells one of the major themes of the Renaissance Baroque by then exalted, that the madness of love: love intended as a magical as mad desire dialectic between spiritual and carnal passion.
Story of love and hate, sensual delirium and murderous madness, The Changeling seems to tell us that there is no purity, the world, but also the most heavenly face hides dark impulses. Thus a love that is born under the aegis of an apparent noble sentiment triggers an unstoppable chain of crimes and horrors.
